IM through Thin Client

By Sooz ·
I am trying to get Instant Messenger with Voice to work through a Citrix server on multiple Wyse thin clients. Has anyone out there tried this? I am not having much success and would appreciate any help.

As Thin Clients don't have an OS on them you are attempting to use the main servers OS to create the IM accounts and they you have added Citrix into the mix which makes it so much harder.

What you'll need to do is create the IM accounts and mark them as available to the client in question and then allow them to connect through your network with Voice. Personally I don't fancy your chances as this isn't going to be an easy installation or roll out.

You could always try something like Gismo as a VoIP client but I'm not sure how well it will work in that environment but if you want to have a look at the product it's here

I don't have any experience with it so I'm unsure if it is the ideal application for your needs as you really want something that will allow multiple Accounts to be provided at the Server Level and I'm not sure of any products that do this for Windows although there must be some available.

The problem is with your Citrix sys. see: [ http://www.networkworld.com/news/2005/110105-citrix-voip.html ] you'll have to do an up-grade, or a lot of work. Citrix now makes VOIP ready ware. (It is different)

Thus far I have got GoogleTalk working on one thin client. I haven't been able to use voice yet, but when I dial from the thin client my pc will ring. I will do more testing tomorrow to try to get 2 thin clients talking at least through IM if not with voice. Because I have gotten this far I have to believe it's possible to make this work.
