I’m trying to find a BIOS flash for my Compaq Presario

I originally started out with the problem of having to have an administrative password for the bios, and none of the passwords that were provided on the internet opened up my BIOS to start the computer. The next remedy was to take out the BIOS battery to reset that password which it did, but then again it never got to the Windows operating system! It’s telling me that I needed that I need a bios flash to get this machine back up and running, but haven’t been able to find one on HP or anywhere else the ones that I did receive to be able to create a boot up USB drive has not worked. I seek the forums help from anyone who might have a copy of the BIOS flash upgrade for the compact for stereo WM339 model of the compact for stereo, and if so please email that to me so I can make a boot up USB drive! How old is this device? Is this a stereo or a computer? Have you checked with the manufacturer’s internet site?

How expensive is the device? Would it be easier just to replace it?

If it is a stereo, I have never heard of a need to have a passcode or flash a BIOS. Need more information than you have provided about the device in question.

This machine is a laptop and not a stereo therefore to get it to operate I need to flash the BIOS. I believe that I was pretty specific on what I need to do.

Thank you for the clarification. How old is it and what version of Windows are you using on it? It would help to know the exact model # of the laptop computer.

In your first post, you mentioned “stereo” twice in the same sentence, which is why I had to ask.

That’s a nice link to download a BIOS-update, assuming the poster meant “20CQ57-339WM” when he wrote “WM339” (which in combination with “stereo” is pretty unspecific, although the poster thinks otherwise.

The obvious problem is that it says it needs to be installed from a working version of Windows. And it seems this 10 year old laptop doesn’t run Windows anymore, for unknown reasons.

It might be time for a new laptop, if the poster forgot the BIOS-password. But maybe a good repair shop finds a solution, although I expect it to be more expensive than a working 10 year old Compaq Presario is worth.
