Importing Text into Access

By Peter Bate ·
Hi there,

I am trying to import a MS-DOS text file (space delimited) into a new table in a blank database. Now when I click on the finish button in the import table wizard, I get an error message:

"Can't Update. Database or object is read only"

So I have checked the permissions on the text file - not read only..
And on the new database file is also not read only.

Why oh why is this happening..?? I have tried this on several machines with different versions of Access running..

Any clues would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Peter

Two possibilities I know of:

In a network environment, you do not have write privileges for the database file.

When working with a secured database, the database or one of its objects (such as a field or table) may be set to read-only. You may not have permission to access this data with your user name and password.

Close the database, resolve the read-only condition, and then reopen the file for read/write access.

Thanks for the input. I was found the previous tech sabotaged the security file so I am going to have to use a security crack for the database. Ahh well. Nevermind.

Thanks again,
Peter
