Impossible to view complete content

By hjwva ·
Since a few days it is impossible to view the complete content of some incoming mail. Some parts of the page(s) are shown as white boxes with a red cross. I use explorer 6.0 and outlook 2002. Even the old messafes, received before the update, I can not see properly any more. So it is obvious that I have a local problem, but where and how?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me.

Those are images that aren't showing.

What update? You didn't mention. IE?

Check that you are connected to the internet. Images that refer to internet locations won't show up unless you downloaded them with the mail.
Check your security settings. If you recently put IE6 in, the security settings are different than your old ones were. Outlook uses IE's security settings.

Also, beware of mail with "blank" images that are 1 by 1 pixels. These are called "web bugs", because they load froman internet page in a way that tells them your e-mail address is valid and they can spam you.

You can always change the format of the mail to plain text instead of HTML to deal with both these issues.

This is 90% of the time due to a MLANG.DLL issue and it occurs with computers having unregistered or mismatched versions. Take the older versions and update them or take the newer and replace mlang.dll with the older version. Do not forget to use regsvr on them at their specific location to register them to your current registry.

If this is confusing, then do the easy thing: reinstall or install Internet Explorer 6 which replaces mlang.dll on all the computers.

But remember if the computer in question is receiving files from others with lower versions and you do not want to update the lower version computers, you will have to take the upper version computer and replace it with the lower version mlang.dll that is on these lower version computers.

To eliminate this entirely, I find that it is easier in the long run to install IE 6 on all computers and then all will have the correct version registered.

The easiest way to reinstall IE 6:
1) run regedit
2) open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Companents\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
3) right-click the Reg_DWORD value IsInstalled
4) select modify
5) change the Value Data to 0
6) exit regedit
7) reinstall IE6.0

---

I did not learn about this until recently and before learing of the above fix, I recommended a reimage of any computer that was printing or displaying the graphics in e-mail with a "red X in a white box." Where the above fails, we re-image.
