Install Norton Antivirus in a dual boot

By phildo ·
I have W98 SE installed on primary IDE as master, and W2000 Pro installed on primary IDE as slave, as a dual boot system. I installed in the proper order...W98 first. All works well...no problems. How do I install Norton Antivirus onto W98, without problems. When I install, then reboot to W2000, then reboot BACK into W98, W98 crashes and is unbootable. Has anyone done this ? (perhaps I need to install NAV on W98, before I install W2000 ?). Can I install onto W2000 also ??? Symantec says the don't "support" NAV in a dual boot environment. PLEZ HE-E-ELP !!!

Install Norton Antivirus in a dual boot

Hi,

I've never run into trouble 'dual booting' NAV.

what version of NAV are you using? It should not make a difference where you're installing it first, just make sure it's the correct version for either win98 or win2000. You should not haveto install NAV BEFORE installing win2000.

also, did you install win98 and win2000 on one partition or two seperate partitions?

Try reinstalling NAV on win98 first. Reboot to win98 after, run a liveupdate, run a virus scan, to make sure it'sall working. After that, if the version of NAV is compatible, install it on win2000.

Install Norton Antivirus in a dual boot

I'm using NAV 2000 Pro for windows (incl. W98/W2000Pro). The OSes are installed on 2 seperate partitions...they're on 2 seperate hard drives, which are both connected to my primary EIDE...W98 as master, and W2000 as slave. After installing NAV to W98, I have run all the preliminaries...live update, total system scan, etc., and it all works. I haven't even gotten so far as to try installing NAV in W2000. (Right now, I'd be happy with just being able to install NAV into W98...) When I reboot toW2K, then reboot back to W98, W98 crashes (though I can still boot into W2K). I've tried this a couple of times with the same results. Any ideas ?
Thanks, Phil

Follow up to poster #1's questions.

If both OS's are installed on the same partition, are you using the same program files directory between both OS's?

If so that is probably the issue. Especially if you are installing NAV for 2K and then win98 tries to use that version.

OSes are on 2 seperate partitions...on 2 seperate hard drives, connected to my primary EIDE channel. W98 as master, and W2K as slave. I'm using NAV 2003 Pro. I've only gotten so far as trying to install to W98. (at this point, I'd be happy with just that.) I've tried this a couple of times with the same results. Any ideas?
Thanks, Phil
