I am new to RedHat and recently downloaded Staroffice 5.2. (the file downloaded as so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin) I have tried to install it by logging in to the Root and running the Gnome terminal. All of the instructions in my Linux book is about installing “.rpm” files, but not “.bin” files. I did find one site that gave very little help, which is why I tried installing in the Gnome Root with Gnome Terminal. However, that just gave me a “Permission Denied” response. I really enjoy working with and learning about Linux. I just have to deal with microsoft lackies most of the time (I’m in the Army). Therefore, I would like to use Staroffice for it’s compatibility with ms. office.
