Installation Problems with Compaq 610

By cclkane ·
I have tried installing win xp on this laptop but all the time it reboots in the middle of the installation and sometimes it gives me a blue screen with an error 0x00000124. Does someone know how to go about this?

Well according to the M$ Knowledge Base

XP doesn't suffer from this problem so do you have the rest of the error message?

From a quick look it can be a Registry Problem so as you are attempting to install XP I would say Wipe the HDD with something like Kill Disc available free here

http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Then attempt to reload the system again but after you Slipstream the HP Drivers for this Model to your Install Disc if you are not already using a HP Recovery Disc.

To make a Slipstreamed Install Disc you can use nLite also available free here

http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

Just make sure to read the instruction here before using this utility

http://www.nliteos.com/guides.html

And you can get the HP Drivers from here

http://tinyurl.com/mre9hw

You can also include any Service Packs that are not on your M$ OEM Disc and download things like SP2 from M$ Download Center here

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a

and SP3 for XP here

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e

Provided that you have not made any changes to this NB that is all that should be required.
