Installing multiple Operating systems

I am having a terrible time installing windows 98 parallel to my windows xp installation. i need 98 on there to do some of t he programs i have, but for some reason it won’t work for me. could you explain to me how it is best to perform a partition without formatting and how to install windows 98 along with xp on my computer?
