insufficient space for rules

By techless ·
Using Outlook with Exchange ... Turning on Out of Office Assistant, then after creating new rule, I get: "One or more rules could not be uploaded to Exchange server and have been deactivated. This could be ... or there is insufficient space to store all of your rules."

Any help what is causing this problem?

Do you have a lot of rules set up in Outlook? There is an actual file size limit for the rules file in Outlook - I think it's about 32KB. Actually, that's an Exchange limitation, not Outlook, but in Exchange/Outlook 2003 it's the same thing. With older versions of Outlook, that amounted to about 50 or so rules, but I've read recently that since Outlook 2003 stores rules in unicode, they are larger and you can probably only get about 20-30 rules within that size limit.

Hope this helps!

Ended up the administrator was looking at his settings ?

Rules Upgrade

Ran this - and it allowed all users to be able to make more rules. Solved it for all users.

The above poster is most likely correct.

MS acknowledges this current problem and to fix it with the new version of Exchange they are making it a 64 Bit application so that they have more room available to store Rules, create mail boxes and have a larger storage area for mail.

Of course that means that you'll have to run exchange on a 64 Bit OS as well.
