Insuficient Memory to run Word 97 On NT4

By MoodySkipper ·
I am running an NT4 Server with Citrix Metaframe on it . This has 4 clients running vairous bits of software including office and an oracle database. There is 128mb of RAM, which has been sufficient in the past and now it won't load Word 97 as it says that there is insufficient memory. Nothing has changed lately and I have also checked the size of the Paging file size and this is set to its max. Am not sure where to go from here? Any idea's?
thanks

Howell Rees

Word will give memory errors if there is low disk space. Check the free disk space, you may need to free some up. You should have at least 20 MB free. Reference:

support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q173908

(Remove any embedded spaces from that url).

None of these worked, I ended up copying Administrators profile to users and then changing their rights back to users only. This worked, but it would of been nice to of known what the answer was, thanks for all answers

Hi Howell,

Just to be safe that it isn't a memory issue, an easy way to check is to run task manager (press [CTRL] [ALT] [DELETE] together when logged on, then choose Task Manager).

Choose the performance tab and ensure that the Peak in the Commit Change K fields isn't higher than the Limit. If the peak is higher, then it is a memory problem I'm afraid.

Enhance your page file. Forget about Microsoft's stipulated maximum. Also it could be that the 'office.ini' file is corrupt. Delete the existing 'office.ini' file. A new 'office.ini' file gets created the next time you open Office '97. If all failsafter a reboot reinstall Office '97.
