intermittant sending of email via thunderbird

By jrgod ·
When sending via thunderbird for "group recipients" does not connect but sends me message:

"The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server name failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator".

My settings are correct as when send "one" recipient delivers okay, this has me baffled as to why this should occur however my "Hotmail" works okay.

Appreciate any help on how to fix!!

Rgds,

John

I think you'll need to speak to your ISP here

As they may have some issues with Thunderbird or they do not support it. Depending on who they are they could have optimized their system for Outlook or Outlook Express and they have some different settings required to work with Thunderbird.

Thanks Col,

Have contacted my ISP and they somewhat stumped with port 25 not accepting group recipients-sometimes it works and other times it doesn't!!

Have left it with their Tech Support.

Kind regards,

John, lets know if they don't give you any joy and I'll have a bit of a think. Though it would help if I was to know who they where.

Col, "they" being "optusnet tech support" whom are certainly baffled as to why some group recipients work in port 25 and others don't;so I am using work around with hotmail.

Have tried turning modem off for 30sec and then turning on does not appear to make any difference!!

What i cannot understand is that Thunderbird will work fine for couple of months then have a glitch with sending(port 25)?

Am not enamoured in utilising Outlook or Outlook Express as not protected enough.

So any help would be appreciated.

That is interesting

John, I'm using Optus as well and don't have a problem with them and Thunderbird. I have had a Optus Account for about 2 years now and what I have noticed with the New Modem after the most recent move is that it needs to be unplugged and the Battery in it removed for a few seconds to reset it after it gets hit with a Power Spike. This didn't happen with the old Modem but the new ones with the Phone and Cable Connection seem a bit flaky.

I don't know if that is of any help to you though.

Though it just as easily could be something software related as well. All of the accounts that I have currently are sending on Port 25 without a problem and there are 10 of them on this machine alone so have you installed some different Firewall App?

Which Modem did Optus Supply you?

Col,since sending you message yesterday port 25 appears to have corrected itself and perhaps turning off modem may have helped.

My firewall is ZoneAlarm Pro and have been utilising this for years therefore do not believe this the problem.

Optus supplied "Motorola" SB5101.

Think will leave well alone and thanks for all your assistance.

Kind regards,

John
