Internal Email Only For Selected Users

By CGriffith318 ·
We currently have Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 Std. Server. We would like to give selected users only internal email access. Could someone give me a link or explain to me how to do this through Exchange?

With Exchange 2003 you cannot remove the Primary Email Address. This did work in Echange 5.5 but it will not work with 2003. Anymore suggestions?

Oops, can't remove their only smtp address. But you can edit it to something that's not routable on the internet.

But I guess they would still be able to send internet mail (sort of, spam blockers would probably catch their outgoing emails and drop them)... just not receive it

I figured out how to do it. You do the following..

1. Create a group called InternalOnly and add the users that you do want sending/receiving external emails. This group has to be mail-enabled.
2. Create a Recipient Policy taht gives them a fake SMTP address i.e @fake.domain.domain. Leave the X400 addres alone, so they can recieve internal emails.
3. Go to your SMTP internet connectors, choose Properties. Choose the Delivery Restrictions tab and under Reject add the group. Do this for all connectors.
4. Follow the steps in the MS Q277872 (this an article on the Connector Delivery Restictions not working correctly.)

That should fix it. Thanks for all your help though.
