Internal & External email accounts

By avasile ·
I have SBS 03 with Exchange with a .local domain. Internally i have no problem sending email in and outside. Also we have a different domain name .com with emails hosted by an outside company. In outlook each user has 2 account: exchange server and POP for external account. Everytime someones sends an email using his external account to an internal account it will receive an NDR report and emails fails. Of course, ih he switches the accounts and sends an email using internal it works great. My question: is there someting that I can do in our Exchange so that emails can be delivered?
Thank you.

My first thought is that a firewall is blocking the ports for incomeing e-mail. Other then that, check to see that the exchange server is set up to accept e-mail fo rthe .com domaine.

A firewall would effect this by blocking the ports for incoming mail. It the required ports are "closed" (port 25) by your firewall, NO mail will get in from the outside that did not innitate traffic from inside (ie none since mail is unsolicited). Other then that check your exchange policys to see if you are set up to accept mail for a .com domaine or just a .local domaine.

See the problem is how to configure my email server so that the outside world can send emails to my .local domain.
I don't think that the firewall can somehow affect this.
Thank you.
