I have a small Intranet site, and I am providing links to Word Docs (actually templates). I would like the link to launch a local copy of Word, so that the user can then utilize the template as they normally would had they opened it from within Word. The link, or the directory being browsed, when clicked on, on many workstations (but not all!) actually opens the .dot file within a new browser window, (as the .dot file). Does anyone know how to direct IE 5.x/6 to launch MS Word when a .dot file is clicked on?? Thank you.... Ron

I think that on workstation with problems you need to make an association for <*.dot> files to open with <winword>. To do this, use in Windows explorer\Folder options\New type (see detail on one workstation which work OK - <Microsoft word template>
The .dot file type is already associated. If I click on a .dot file from within Windows Explorer on the workstation, it opens Word, and works properly. If I do the same from within Internet Explorer, it does not launch Word, but rather opens the .dot file within Internet Explorer.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
Internet Explorer 5/6 won't launch Word
Thank you....
