    by cheese126 ·

I have just bought a new dell inspiron E1505 laptop. It has an Intel duo core processor running at 1.66 GHz, 1 GB of ram, windows XP media center SP2. I am having problems with internet explore 7 locking up on me. When this happened I have to ctrl-alt-delete and end task. To see the event view log visit this web page http://www.geocities.com/k_kobylski/post.html

I have search the internet for an answer to this problem and have not been able to find on. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

    Thank you,
    Kevin Koby

And forgetting about IE7 except for Windows updates is out of the question?

IE7 has lots of problems so most have not moved from IE6 which comes as the default Browser with XP. Even if you stick with IE6 you now have the Tabbed Browsing option so really IE7 isn’t any better and quite often worse.

You can get FF here free to download

I have fire fox install and it does work properly. I think the problem is with the tool bars both Google and yahoo were being used. I am still testing to see if this is the problem

          My advice

is to run scans for spyware using Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4, then again using Lavasoft AdAware SE.

I’ve found spyware causing performance issues on brand new PC’s just out of the box many times. I guess someone is subsidizing certain systems to help keep prices low in exchange for letting them slip in some “helpful” hidden programs.

          I don’t know about Yahoo

But Goggle doesn’t cause any problems.

However I’ve seen some clean installs loaded with Spy Ware and before I ever go near the Windows Live Update Site I always make sure that I have a working AV Product installed because I’ve picked up quite a few Viruses from the M$ Live Update Site that have required the unit to be wiped and reloaded.

I’ve just found IE7 to be unreliable plain & Simple. The trouble with it is once you install it it’s almost impossible to remove without doing any other damage.

          IE7 and Application Issues

          by sarge62436 ·

In reply to I don’t know about Yahoo

We use a specialized browser-based app for vehicle diagnostics. This app was designed around IE6; IE7 installations cause the app (and its remote assistance companion app)to fail. We can undo the damage by removing IE7 via Add/Remove programs. In limited cases, a System Restore is required. Worst-case, we have had one or two machines that required a complete re-image.

this was driving me cazy ! finally found out how to solve this bug.
1)Go HKCU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\MAIN\FEATURE CONTROL,… AND DELETE ANY CRAP THAT IS IN THERE.
      2)GO HKCU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\PHISHINGFILTER.. ON THE VALUE “ENABLE”,CHANGE TO 0(ZERO)
THAT’S IT, NO NEED TO CHANGE YOUR BROUSER TO FIREFOX.
      ENJOY.
