Internet Explorer Content advisor

By sclark ·
I just purchased a computer and the content advisor password was set, and I don't know the password. Is there any way to reset it back to default(no password)? I tried uninstalling, deleting the IE folder and reinstalling, but it also failed. It is keeping the setting somewhere else...system registry. I have tried searches in regedit, but nothing familar was found. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to reformat/reinstall Windows98 + software. Thanks -

Back up your registry first.

Then do Run -> regedit. Then drill down to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer sion\Policies\Ratings
Select the icon called Key in the right-hand pane and press delete. Close Regedit.

You can now start Internet Explorer and goto View, Internet Options.... Select the Content tab, and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything, just click on OK. This will disable Content Advisor, since there's no longer a password. You can enable it again as soon as you think up a more memorable password
