Why does IE crash evry time I try to download a program? I have a high speed internet cable connection, charter Pipeline, it browses great, speeds are incredible, but it crashes every time, it says ie has experienced an error and will now close, then it asks me if I want to send a report, and I do, then it says they have no solution for my problem, to download ie6.0, but I can’t, help.

In reply to internet explorer crashes!

First, what version of Windows are you running?

If Windows 98, I recommend AGAINST installing IE6.

Now, lets try a few things.

      1. Clear out your internet cache and temp files.

From IE, click on Tools, Internet options.
On the general tab, in the temporary internet files section, click on the delete files button.
      Close IE.

      Open Windows Explorer.
      Browse to the C:\Windows\Temp folder
It is safe to delete any file or folder that is over 2 weeks old.

Exit Windows Explorer and empty the recycle bin.

      2. Run System File Checker (SFC) from the run box on the start menu.
What you want to do, is allow Windows to replace any corrupt or missing system files.

      3. Scandisk and Defrag.
      Boot into Safe Mode.
      Run scandisk.
Makesure that the box to automatically fix errors is checked.

      After running scandisk, run defrag.

If you still have problems, your next option is to have a friend download an alternate web browser and a Spy-Ware finder, then burn them onto a CD for you.

I recommend the Mozilla browser http://www.mozilla.org

      And either AdAware http://www.lavasoft.de
      or Spybot Search and Destroy
      http://www.download.com

Run the spy-ware checker before installing the browser.

It would not hurt to run your virus scanner either.
You may want to have a friend download the latest virus definition update for you.

      Chas
