I don’t know if there is a client side only hardware or software tool that will speed up your internet connection…

That normally requires intelligance at both ends of the wire (not slamming you) … There has to be either hardware or software that compresses and decompresses the transmission…

Dial-up are you full duplex or half duplex?? Cable how many others are sharing that drop – DSL another story …

Need more details – but I think you are going to have to live with what you got or switch to other services…. I get 3.4 meg download – 516Kb upload speed at home with a cable modem…

Switch Services – my recommnedation ..

      Here’s why…

No piece of software running on your local machine can circumvent the laws of the net.

You can only recieve information as fast as the remote end can feed it to you.

And since you never have a direct point to point connection with the remote server. You are speed is also going to be thwarted by the path your ISP is taking you to the remote location.

If your on a dial-up, a software packacge can not magically turn it into a DSL connection. And if you are on isdn/dsl/cable, it’s not going to turn it into a DS3.

I equate these pieces of software to the old “Magic Cure-All Potions” of the 1900’s. They just don’t work.

      Software not the answer …

Internet acceleration software is designed for people who have fixed surfing habits. It remembers your favourite sites, and gets the next one ready while you are looking at number one, and so on.

I have been advised by many sources that it actually slows down your Internet performance if your surfing habits are not regular.

      Other factors …

If you are on dail-up, your local phone line is the most significant factor. I don’t know how landlines work in other countries, but where I am (Sydney) if you are connected via an old exchange i.e. the phone number you have has been unchanged for many years, you may request a new phone number, that will connect you to a newer, faster exchange.

Avoid cheap ISPs. They are likely to transmit at a slower speed.

If you want real speed, you have to pay for it. ADSL or Cable will carry a much higher monthly fee than dial-up.
