Intranet website

Can i use my redhat linux 6.1 for local intranet, if its possible can i use apache as my web server and do i need a dns to manage host to ip address mapping configuration.

Yes, yes, and DNS would be a whole lot easier than updating HOSTS files all the time.

but please help me how to do this. i tried so many combinations but to no avail, i would gladly appreciate it very much. if u have time please email a sample for local dns lookup. and thanks for the help...

Definitely yes. Apache running on RH Linux works very, very well for a local intranet.

As far as the DNS, that is the most elegant way to go, but for a single-server local intranet, an easy workaround is to just enter the ip address of the server in each browser's default home page (e.g. http://192.168.0.x ). That way, when they open the browser, the Intranet home page will come up and you don't have the overhead of maintaining a DNS server.
