Introduction of Linux; Think Twice

By SDBaguma ·
I thank Carl Weinschenk about the article "introduce Linux to enterprise with the right non-mission-critical application". I think this is an eye opener and should serve as guideline to many of us professionals. One should move to a new operating system when s(he) is completely disatsified with it. If a Windows Server is configured very well, it can serve all the security one should expect. Trying an open source, one has to be extra careful.

There are numerous reasons to migrate to alternative operating systems. Given MS's track record on security problems it would but one of those reasons. MS just released SP4 fo W2K, check the list of patches and ask how secure was your installation. Also the bug reorts on SP4 have just begun to arrive. Linux, if properly configured, should as secure as windows if not better. Any OS not configured properly will be insecure, some are insecure despite you best efforts but you may not know until thepatches are released. At least with Linux you can you can look at your fly to see if the zipper is closed.
