Invoking file with default applicaition

I have file that need to be opened with the applicaiton that is set default in the explorer.
If the explorer default application is changed it has to open in that default application. For example if txt files are opened with the notepad if i changethe txt files default application to open in Word from the program it should open the txt file in the word instead of notpead. Pl let me know how to do it

Start windows explorer, tools, options, folder Kind of file (sorry, translation from foreign windows, the 3rd folder).
Then, you can select file associations and default program used.

The last answer is correct, the tab under folder options is labeled "File Type".

Depending on the version of windows you are using, you should have a list of all known file extensions. Select the extension you need to edit and then hit the changeor edit button (again depends on windows version). The next window will give you an option of what program you want to associate with that particular file extension.

It's easier to just hold down the shift key and right-click on the file in question, click on 'Open With...' and select the correct application.
