IP configuration in UNIX

by Some Guy in Seattle In reply to IP configuration in UNIX

in the /etc directory, set up a file called "defaultrouter". In this file place the IP address of your default gateway. Make sure you have a return at the end of the line.

Also in the /etc directory, edit the "hosts" file. Following the existing format, enter the IP and hostname for each interface of your box.

Again in the /etc directory, for each of your interfaces, create a file called "hostname.<interface name>". For instance, if one of your interfaces is labeled hme0 then your file name will be hostname.hme0 (you can find out the names of your interfaces by doing an "ifconfig -a" command). Inside this file put the actual host name of your machine/interface.

Hope that helps.
