IPod detection on XP

i havwe a USB 2.0 which is a requirement for the ipod to be used on my system with XP as my OS. but the problem is..... my system won't detect the connection..... i tried installing the driver from the CD, even the update from the apple site. it still wont detect... help please.

If you didn't install the software and update before plugging it in, you should uninstal everything.

Install software and update it, then after reboot, plug in the device.

Are other USB devices found too? If not you may have USB support disabled in the BIOS or require a BIOS update.

I find most "plug&play" USB installs require a systematic install. Start from scratch, software, update THEN device.

If you haven't already resolved this problem, here's
something to try. You didn't say if you installed iTunes
or not. The XP machine may not see the iPod until
iTunes is installed. I'm not sure on this as I don't have
an XP machine and extra iPod to check it out.

So install the iTunes software. If you want to use the
iPod as an external disk, make sure to enable the disk
mode setting. Again I'm not sure where it is because I
don't have the Windows version of iTunes.
