Shell, could it be something to do with this?

by gadgetgirl In reply to Is anyone else having TR ...

information I got over the hols delivered to the works account re security vulnerability in adobe....

What is it?
===========
Adobe - Flash Player update available to address security vulnerabilities

What does it affect?
====================
Adobe Flash Player 9.0.48.0 and earlier, 8.0.35.0 and earlier, and 7.0.70.0
and earlier

What does it do?
================
Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Flash Player that
could allow an attacker who successfully exploits these potential
vulnerabilities to take control of the affected system. A malicious SWF must
be loaded in Flash Player by the user for an attacker to exploit these
potential vulnerabilities.

How do I fix it?
================
Users are recommended to update to the most current version of Flash Player
available for their platform - version 9.0.115.0 (Win, Mac, Linux).

Details of Specific Problem
===========================
The technical issues are described by the supplier and at the CVE website,
and can be found from:

- http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-20.html.

No idea if it's related or not, it just seemed odd that you're having these problems the day after I opened that email.....

This guy is, he says it's the adverts.

All advertising is blocked on my machine by the company, so I'm not having any issues.

You did read my question :)
If I only had read your answer to Shellbot before. I wouldn't have put in the link in mine

Oh btw, the why it's in the adverts ... just a small hint of me cause of the error when scrolling up or down reaching the advert (Ad Feedback) in the box in the banner on the right.

There IS an issue out there

by Tig2 In reply to Is anyone else having TR ...

But I haven't had anything come up since Monday or so. Have been down sick so not online so much.

If you use the ad-block plug in to Firefox, you won't see so much of it.

I do know that it is being looked at.

Hang in there, Shell. They'll fix it.

However, as mine is today noticably improved, I expect that you should see a turn for the better shortly.

That you take this back!

I am so tired of coughing. My throat is a scratchy mess and I am actually sore from coughing so much. Fortunately, the fever is gone and I'm getting a bit more sleep.

Don't know about you, but I get this in some variety or another every year. Winter just isn't my season.

Oddly enough, for me there seems to be a benefit!

by deepsand In reply to Sandy, I insist

Since 1966, after having had bronchitis and mononucleosis simultaneously, I've suffered chronic sinusitis. Now that the pneumonia is relenting, I'm able to breath though my nose with noticeable greater ease.

Additionally, following a very bad summer cold in 1997 or 1998, I lost virtually all sense of smell. Now, that too has shown improvement, albeit a small one; no doubt my olfactory sensors are permanently and irreparably damaged. Still, as any improvement here brings with it an increased ability to taste, I'm grateful for it.

As for seasonal afflictions, I seem to be more given to summer colds than anything else. Winter, with its drier air, resulting in less sinus congestion, is the more tolerable season for me; assuming, that is, that I'm able to keep sufficiently warm so as to avoid the consequences of Raynaud's syndrome, a result of my having been severely frostbitten at the age of 12 or so.

How much of these improvements turn out to be lasting remains to be seen.

In the mean, take care; and, try some Scotch.

But Sandy

You just don't understand- I can't train like this!

I've have chronic bronchitis for years. I have had the pneumonia inoculation but I understand that it only protects against specific types.

You may find that in time, your ability to smell will return- perhaps not in any robust fashion- but enough to taste. I have never heard of a permanent loss in smell but I have no doubt that it can happen.

Me? Since the lump scare, I find that being sick is a whole lot easier to deal with. I know the alternative.

Frostbite is some nasty stuff. I got it (mildly) on both hands a few years after I moved here and find that I don't dare go out in chilly weather without 40 gram Thinsulate gloves at a minimum. And I have 100 gram gloves at standby. And glove liners.

Bundle up! I'll email you pocket and toe warmers!

There is a time for healing, and a time for training.

by deepsand In reply to But Sandy

Now is the time for the former.

Humans would do well to learn from "lesser" animals how best to deal with illness.

Such creatures, when stricken, do not seek to do all that they might, but rather to do as little as is necessary. They go to ground, take to their beds, and wait.

Our ancestors knew the wisdom of such quite well. We today, on the other hand, have forgotten such, and demand that our bodies give all that they can, regardless of their health, with the results that, not only do we prolong our periods of illness, but frequently predispose ourselves to being prone to more frequent and more severe future illnesses.

In dealing with my recent bout with pneumonia, I did as other animals do. I ate when my body told me to; when it did not do so, I refrained from eating. When it told me to sleep, I slept, up to 12-14 hours at a time.

I healed rather quickly, without benefit or need of any medication other than a common analgesic, naproxen sodium. (In hindsight, I am reminded that I have not required any prescription medication since 1973.)

So, listen to your body, and be its very best friend. Training can wait.
