Is Doctorate (PhD) degree is useful for IT professional and his career?

I have done my Master degree in Information Technology (in India,2013) and Working as Senior Software Engineer (in Microsoft.Net platform) in a leading software company of India.

Now, I have a plan to a PhD (Doctorate) degree under any one title of IT/Software domain. So can you please guide about the following questions,
1. Is PhD is valuable addition to my profile and will it help for my growth in IT industry?
2. Which kind of TITLE is valuable nowadays for doing research to accomplish my PhD (Under IT/Software domain)?
3. Please recommend any of the university (direct / online) OR method to accomplish my goal in better way

Being called Dr has never really hurt anyone

Though it does stop you applying for entry level positions as No One is going to employ someone so highly qualified as a Entry Level position.

As for Dissertations or Universities that all depends on where you live as to which one is best for you.
