Is if possible to create recovery disk for hp laptop a 2nd time

By wsmm ·
Had a friend give me an hp laptop dv4000. He was having power problems which I resolved and now have the laptop working. Only problem remaining is that he lost the recovery cds. Tried recreating from laptop but the recovery option is not there. Don't feel like paying HP for another set. Is there anyway to create a set from the laptop that anyone is aware of?

Thanks,
Bill

Depends on what happened here

If the HDD was wiped and reloaded the Recovery Partition will be gone forever.

If it is still there it may be possible to build another Recovery Set.

However if the system is still working correctly it would be simpler to just create a Clone Image of the HDD as it stands now with one of the free Cloning Utilities available here

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=HDD+Cloning+Utilities&meta=

Burn the Image to a CD or DVD and store it so that you will have access to the Clone which is a Image of the HDD now with all of the applied Service Packs & Patches that have become available since your Install Set was Made.

However it is better to pay HP for a Manufactured Recovery Set as any Burnt Media has limited life expectancy depending on how it is stored. Under Ideal Conditions it is recommended to reburn CD's after a 4 to 5 year time frame and sooner under less Ideal Conditions.
