I’m no economist or financial analyst, but here is how I link Microsoft to declining salaries in IT:
Windows Vista requiring more expensive hardware and a complete desktop application overhaul will require IT departments to stretch their IT budgets thin for new equipment purchases, leaving less money for salary increases of the IT folks supporting these systems. IT departments are 99.9% of the times seen as cost centers and have to squeeze every dollar and cent out of the corporation to get anything done. With Windows Vista requiring serious hardware upgrades, we can surely see our salaries go down the toilet, as companies will allocate more money towards hardware instead of paying the folks that keep it all running.
