I have to reinstall XP Pro because of bad HD. with keyfinder I found what was the product key, but I don't have an original XP CD. Therefore I m using someone elses CD for installation, but after enterying my product key I receive an error message that its not a valid CD. I tried others CD's with the same result. Is there any posibility to find CD version (OEM, retail, etc..) from the product key?
Please help, I wasted 2 weeks on it
Thank you for your time.

access the old hard drive, you could look for the Product ID. It is in the registry and also in a setupp.ini file. If the system came with XP Pro on it, it could be an OEM. Some OEM disks were tied to the manufacturer's BIOS.
Why not call Microsoft? They would be able to tell you which CD you need; you will need to have the COA at hand. If you don't have the COA (which by the license requirements it should be stuck ON the PC somewhere) you could be illegally installing the software...
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
Is there such an option as finding a cd version from the Product key?
