Is VPN session data secure?

By givenchygr ·
I have a question regarding how secure confidential data that is viewed during a vpn session is after terminating session. Does the session leave data on the local computer and where? Can hackers get to it? What tools Can be use to read the data? (Local computer is a Laptop with Win XP SP3 and IE7)

Thanks much!

The only way you would have any data on your machine is if you have rights for off line storage of files.

VPN is just a transport method

So therefore whatever data is left over from local applications used on the PC is no different than with a non-VPN LAN/WAN connection.

So if the user used Microsoft Office to edit a Word document, that data would be there, as would data such as Web browsing history, cached web pages, etc.

Can hackers get to the local laptop data now? (Probably not, assuming that normal firewall/anti-virus protection is installed)
