Issue with Outlook Auto Updating

I am having a problem with Outlook 2003, whenever it downloads and installs any outlook updates it disables my Tasks, i am unable to accept or deny any new ones. then i have to go in and remove the updates and it works again but not for the tasks i had already received. How do i disable Outlook from automatically updating?
