Issues in DNS/WINS/Exchange on IP Change

By Bhrdwh ·
Hi,
We have NT 4.0 BDC server & Exchange 5.5 Server. We use VPN Tunnels to synch with the PDC & main bridgehead Exchange server. We also host Secondary DNS & Push/Pull WINS Services from our main office.

If I change the IP address from existing 192.168.100.x IP scheme to say 17.25.20.x -
1. What issues are likely to crop up?
2. Any Support docs from anywhere/microsoft available?
3. Has anyone actually done it?

1. The only issues that could pop up are name resolution problem. This can be resolved by going to your DNS server and changing the A record for the server your changing to the new address.

When the server is rebooted it should register the new IP address withing the WINS server and that should replicate to the other site.

The best thing to do is take a workstation, give it a static IP address and then change it and asses the effects of the change.

Good Luck
