Would taking an IT class for a few years in high school look good to colleges if you are trying to go to college for a computer science degree?

I don’t think it’s necessary to be admitted to the college. Check that at your favorite college.
And once you’re admitted the teachers don’t know what you did in high school, so it doesn’t matter then. All that matters is what you do.

But taking an IT class might be useful to see if you like the subject enough to do it your whole life,

Kees offered excellent advice. I got a minor in IS (as it was called in the late 1990’s when I went for my 4 year bachelor degree. Didn’t lead to a career for me, but it would definitely be a good start for many

Yes, taking an IT class in high school for a few years would look good to colleges if you’re planning to pursue a computer science degree. It shows your interest in the field, helps you build foundational skills, and can set you apart from other applicants. If possible, try to take advanced courses, participate in coding competitions, or work on personal projects to strengthen your application even more.

Yes, taking IT classes in high school can definitely strengthen your college application for a computer science (CS) degree. It shows your interest in the field, gives you foundational knowledge, and demonstrates initiative. Colleges appreciate students who have relevant experience before entering a CS program. Additionally, if your school offers AP Computer Science, dual enrollment courses, or coding-related extracurricular activities (like coding clubs, hackathons, or certifications), those can further boost your application.
