Ed McMahon used to send me Publisher's Clearinghouse checks for years. I didn't even have to buy any magazines.

he made

some kid's family richer too by $25M.

I have avoided watching anything about him. Pitiful sick man he was.

'Pitiful' is a good word.

by CharlieSpencer In reply to he made

I rarely use the phrase, "He had so much potential." In Michael Jackson's case, it's all I can think of. I don't know what his personal issues were, but it sure looked like self-loathing to this layman. We are poorer musically because of the missing works his personal problems prevented him from creating.

i agree

His musical works were, at one time, sensational. His catalog of work may be something to celebrate. Maybe even if he did philanthropy.

However, his "life" should not be celebrated. Anyone who, in their life, was accused of doing unspeakable acts to a child (who described his private region no less) and gets out of it after a $25M "settlement" should not be someone whose life you celebrate IMHO.

And yes, he was pitiful...for more than one reason.

Jacko really did make me rich - well, in a way

by maxwell edison In reply to Jacko has made me rich!

The day he died, I put a still-sealed original release of his Thriller record album on eBay as a one day auction. It fetched almost $400.

The SAME DAY a person dies (and makes the news) is the best time to put a related item on eBay; and a one-day auction is the best choice.

P.S. In case you're wondering, it was paid for via PayPal mere moments after auction's end, and a guy in Great Britain bought it.

Loved the reply!

Would I go up or down more notches if I told you that I have four (4), personally autographed first editions of Jimmy Carter's books in a readily available spot on my book shelf, just waiting for their day on eBay?

Up even more.

by OnTheRopes In reply to LOL

Just knowing that you've got those is worth at least one full notch.
