Java and COM

By icortez ·
Has anyone tried to call a COM ActiveX server object from Java client specifically using ActiveX RDS whether in Visual J++ or not? We have this ActiveX server written in VB6 wherein other VB6 clients communicate using ADO/RDS. I want to do the same thing with a JAVA client (note: not JavaScript). If you could share a sample code the better.

Thanks,

Java and COM

If you're comfortable developing in C++, I would recommend creating a simple Java interface to encapsulate the ActiveX server's interface, then implementing that interface with JNI methods. The JNI code (presumably written in Visual C++) could work with ADO/RDS rather easily.

Using JNI is not a trivial exercise, but if you've done COM, or in particular, Automation development in C++, JNI isn't really all that different.
