JAVA not running on some XP clients

By aplumley ·
I've noticed some of the XP builds list Microsoft VM (JAVA software) under IE advanced, and others dont. The machines that dont, can't open JAVA script websites.

I find this odd as the builds are of different ages, eg, my pc has JAVA, but an older XP build and a brand new XP build don't. The IE version is the same.

Any ideas?

Microsoft and Java

Basically because of some legal battles between Sun and MS over Java, the JVM was taken out of IE at some point.

The quickest fix is to go to Sun and download their JVM. Its free and it works fine.

May be due to the Sun lawsuit.

I've taken to just downloading and installing the latest Sun Java Runtime package, which works for IE, Mozilla, Netscape, and others.

And it has less security holes than MS VM.

For that matter, switch all your users to Mozilla, then no popups either!
