Java on Mainframe

by christo.stemmet . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

We are currently looking at new development languages on the mainframe (IBM OS/390).
Our current languages are PL/1, COBOL and C. We are looking at running Java on the mainframe.
The Java programs need to integrate with the current systems on the mainframe. What is the
performance of Java on the OS/390. What is the possible rise in MIPS usage on the mainframe.
I’ve heard that it could be 2 to 20 times the MIPS usage of say PL/1 or C.
Where is the best place to run Java i.e in Unix systems services or under CICS.
There is also the possibility of running Java under Linux on a S/390 partition.
Currently our chosen application server running on Windows NT is BEA Weblogic 6.1.
What is the best appserver for the mainframe.
