JAVA or C# or Neither

By MLuchtman ·
I am trying to re tool. I have been fairly strictly VB6 or before. After reading several article it seems that either Java or C# is the direction that many are taking but I am not sure which has more staying power or if I should re tool with a different language and platform. Any suggestions?

All depends what type of job you're shooting for,,,,,

What I've seen is much more call for Java for use in corporate web apps, e-commerce apps, and many mobile applications.

When most people say C#, they really mean, which tends to tether you to Microsoft platforms, by default.

Technically, there is not much diff between the two, so learn both.

Depends on how strong you are in things VB6

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to JAVA or C# or Neither

didn't do at all, or well.
Threading and OO, being two stand outs.
If you are strong on them, then may be VB.Net might be an easier introduction to the MS, stuff. Be careful though, it's not as similar as MS would have you believe, but looks similar enough for you to make a complete arse of yourself. Once you picked up VB.Net, C# should be a breeze, or vice versa.

As to which, have a play with both, and check the 'local' job market.
