Java problem

By williamjwallace ·
I installed the latest version of Java (J2SE Runtime environment 5.0 Update 4). After installing, web pages work just fine, but after a restart of XP, if I try and load a page containing Java the whole IE browser shuts down.

I have uninstalled Java and re-installed several times and every time I install Java I get the same thing it works for a day or so then I get the browser shutdowns again.

I'm not familiar with 5.0. Try using v.1.4.2 and see if the problem goes away. If your interested in developing Java applications, use the SDK, otherwise, use JRE.

Best regards,

Also try looking at the Java settings in your IE browser...Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and Tools, Internet Options, Security.

The "J2SE Runtime environment 5.0 Update 4" is the jre version (naming change). Did you reboot after installing & did you check it was enabled in the advance tab & internet options.

Have you considered switching to Firefox, just a thought.

Yes, I have rebooted and done all things troubleshooting wise I can think of. As for Firefox, we can't use it due to one of our systems, which is web based, is not compatible.
