Have an exchange 5.5 system with the desktop running Outlook 2003. The Journal will not log activity from the Office applications. The users mailbox is quite large and he uses a roaming profile. All other tested users work fine.

Journal set to available offline?

by Jessie In reply to Journal

I seem to recall reading somewhere, and of course, now I'm not sure WHERE, and I've searched the net and can't find it... but I seem to recall the journal is not supported for roaming profiles.

If it IS supported for roaming profiles, offline availability (which stores files locally) needs to NOT be enabled. You can check this by right clicking on Journal in the Folders list, select properties, go to Synchronization tab, and make sure that under "This folder is available," "Only when online" is selected.

thanks for the info but it was working with roaming profiles and available when off line. It just stopped one day. I'm suspecting it may have something to do with the size of the mailbox but I can't find anything on the web about it. His mailbox is very very large since he is the owner of the company and has no restriction.

I know that PSTs have a pretty hard limit of about 500 MB before they start getting corrupted... Perhaps you can help him seperate out his mail into several PSTs? And see if reducing the size of his server mailbox helps?
