    Junior IT employee

    Hello,

    I just start my new job as technical support in a college. I want to ask you as senior IT what do like the new employee to be most knowledge of? I have basics fundamental on OS , Networking and hardware.

    also is certifications such as CompTIA would be a good next step?

      You have 2 questions, so I’ll give 2 answers.

      1. If not clear from the description of the function and the talks you had when applying for the job: ask your manager. Be sure to tell him about what subjects you feel you need to know more to do your job better.

      2. https://www.comptia.org/certifications shows a lot of certifications. Discuss with your manager which of those he is willing to pay for to make a you still more useful employee than you already are. It won’t harm your later career with other employers if you follow such a course on your own, but only do that if you know what kind of work you prefer.
