    Kill yellow box

    Locked

    by magnefl ·

When I highlight or MouseOver any file in Microsoft Explorer will – after one second – a yellow box pop up, covering three file names directly over or under the highlighted / pointed file. The content in the box varies, but could be Type, Date and Size. Is there a way to turn of his annoying “help”?

    With kind regards
    Magne, Norway

To disable the Windows XP Notification Area balloon tips:

      1. Use the registry editor to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.

      2. on the Edit menu, press New and DWORD value.

      3. Type a Value Name of EnableBalloonTips.

      4. Double-click EnableBalloonTips and type 0.

Alternately, open a CMD.EXE window and type:

      REG ADD “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” /V EnableBalloonTips /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
