    Label trouble in Access 97

    Locked

    by jbrydl ·

I posted this question last week and accidently closed it without obtaining a solution. Thank you for those that did respond but your soulutions did not help my situation. I have a database created which generates serial numbers for products we manufacture. This data then is printed on pre-printed tractor fed labels which are 4″H X 3.5″W. The problem we are having is the labels creep down so can only print one at a time, need to reailgn after each is printed. I have tried 3 different printers(okidata and panasonic) and get the same results. We also have this same problem in MS Excel with some other labels we print. Any ideas and help anyone may help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you used the label wizard ?
Click on the reports tab click on new and choose the labels wizard. It is set up for Avery labels but there is a customize button which allows you to exactly define the labels you wish to use.
Make sure that the printer you are going to use is the default before you start the wizard

Printing to a dot matrix printer can be a problem with windows programs.
All windows programs are going to print the label in graphics mode.

There are 2 things I can think of for you to try.

      1. Make sure that the default settings in the printers do not interfere.

Dot Matrix printers can be set to skip over the fold, or handle carriage width problems differently. IF you are using a narrow carriage printer, the print job my be one or more characters too wide. Making on line wrap aroundcausing the spacing problem. Check the printer manuals on how to configure internal printer settings.

      2. Try using the Windows GENERIC printer driver.

Using this driver has fixed a number of problems print from windows programs to a dot matrixprinter for me.

The label wizard isn’t available in Access, so what you need to do is go through the paper types done by one and see which one gives you and acceptable page width.

This is achieved through Report Design Mode ->Files -> Page setup. Trial and error is the only way that you’ll get it to go.

It also has a section (3rd tab, don’t recall name) that lets you tell it how many across and down per page, thus letting it calculate the height of the lables.

      Good luck!
