    Laptop CPU frequency dropping

    by avicci ·

So I have an i5 9th gen and I noticed hiccups in my laptop recently. After using afterburner I noticed the frequency is at 4000mhz in screen menu of games and then drops to 1400mhz when I actually play the game.

I tried editing power plan etc and the usual Google stuff. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

      Might be normal.

For example the CPU temp goes up and the CPU reduces speed to keep from overheating. Nothing to fix here as it’s a laptop.

If you feel it’s a product defect, contact the laptop maker for how to resolve or return for full refund if they can’t fix it.

You can avoid CPU speed drops while gaming by ensuring your CPU stays cool and gets sufficient power. Dusting your computer and upgrading to an aftermarket cooler allows your CPU to get higher clock speeds. Disabling power-saving settings and using a good motherboard also prevents CPU speed drops
