Laptop crash

by dksj . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I have a laptop (my bosses’) which was purchased in fall of 97. It is running Windows 95 but I do not know the version.
Yesterday he decided to compress the harddrive to free up some space so he ran the drivespace utility which he accessed he says through the drive properties dialogue box. It took several hours to complete the compression, but now he is unable to start the computer. I used a startup disk to start the computer, but am unable to see or access any files on the c: drive. When I type dir/p “no files found” message appears. Has the FAT table been damaged somehow? What can I do to recover the “compressed” data files?
