Laptop Problem - Four Images on Laptop Screen at Boot

By greg ·
I recently replaced an irratic lcd screen on a Dell 6000 laptop. I replaced both the screen and inverter. Initially the new screen worked reasonably well except that sometimes rather than one image on the screen I got four identical images (at boot and in Windows) in quadrants of the screen. I replaced the screen and inverter with new parts with the same result. I then replaced the video cable with a new part with the same result. As time has progressed I can no longer ever get a single image - always four images at boot. Since this laptop has video integrated into the MB, the video card/chip is not changeable or upgradeable. I search the www and a host of forums but could find no references to someone getting four images on a screen at the same time.

What do you think my problem is? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Have you plugged in an External Monitor

To see if it is producing the same Image?

If it is you have a Video Card Problem which would involve replacing the M'Board. If the External Monitor works properly you have to look at the Monitor, Video Lead or something related to the NB Display.

Unfortunately the laptop in question is at college with one of my kids, so I didn't have an external monitor to plug in when I visited him. But, I know I should have found one to test it with. I'll have him do that. I appreciate your feedback.
