    Laptop Recommendation (India)

Which one of these would be better for Computer science related stuff? I don’t plan on gaming too much, light gaming at max.

    Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 R7 4800H VS Lenovo Legion 5 R5 4600H VS HP Victus Ryzen 5 5600H (3050 graphics)

All other specs are the same and don’t need comparison.

Quite understandably, pure performance would be better in the case of IdeaPad gaming 3 and Victus. However, this question is in the context do I really NEED a Ryzen 7 4800H or Ryzen 5 5600H for my needs, or Ryzen 4600H would just work fine? The price is actually exactly same for the three, however I’ve heard Legion has a far superior build quality and thermals. So my concern is does the Performance boost of R7 4800H or R5 5600H outweigh the better build and probably overall life of the Legion 5. I plan to use the laptop at least for the next 5 years.

    Thanks.

      Time for benchmarks.

Find reviews and benchmarks to see if game performance is close to what you want. It does not matter if you plan on gaming much. You didn’t define “light gaming.” My wife uses a nice enough Core i7, 1050 TI (mobile), 16 GB RAM and all SSD to play The Sims 4. Is that light gaming? You tell us.

5 years is doable but it requires the owner to treat the machine with respect and repair it when needed. Laptops are not bricks. Repairs over 5 years are expected.

I think that for games you should choose Lenovo Legion 5 R5 4600H. It is quite reliable and fast. I think that with a caring attitude, the laptop will easily work for more than 5 years.

      RAM

From the specifications I found online, the ideapad 3 seems to have more RAM than the Lenovo Legion. The higher RAM will help you in your gaming needs. Despite the condition, laptops do get slower over time, so you might need to upgrade the ram or the processor in the future.
