Laptop screen light turns off when I unplug power adaptor

By donmckeen ·
I have a Compaq M2000 I just replaced the inverter when I start up the laptop via battery the screen light dosn't come on. I can barely see the desk top when I checked the battery statis it reads 100%. When I start up the laptop by the power adaptor the screen light comes on and stays on. Any suggestions

Got another battery to test with?

by robo_dev In reply to Laptop screen light turns ...

normally the screen backlight brightness is going to be about half as bright when on battery, but if the inverter is only putting out 1/2 the power output, then it would be 100% dark.

Does the backlight brightness change at all with the hotkeys that adjust that?

Sometimes batteries have full voltage, but cannot supply sufficient current under load.

Also, reset the bios to factory defaults just in case.

Got a spare inverter to test with?

Also, it's possible that when the original power inverter failed, it took out another component, like the circuitry on the motherboard that controls the backlight brightness.

I installed a good battery

I installed a good battery and it still didn't work. I reset the bios and that didn't change anything. I don't have a spare inverter.

You might need to adjust the brightness of your screen when you are running on battery. You will need to look in your manual for this, but on some laptops you have buttons on the keyboard that are doubled up to either blue/red or white. Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.
