Laser Printing

By philip ·
I have a client that is making an inquiry as to having a graphic print on the utility bills our software is generating for them.
I have an example of generating a logo for a Printronix line printer, but nothing for laser printers. Does anyone havesome script that I can use as an example for creating a dynamically changing graphic on a laser printer?

Alas, it sounds like you need a more elaborate coding solution [and problem description].

However, here's a _possible_ hack.

Set your printer icon to print to a file instead of an icon. The text that's emitted to the file is what's needed to render the page/graphics.

If your printer uses PCL, it can be a rough experience to extract what you need -- frankly, I suspect the effort and cost of hiring someone to code will be far less than trying to figure out the escape codes and make the appropiate adjustments.

If your printer uses PostScript, there's a fairly decent chance that you could extract the PostScript commands that do the real work. Typically though, you have some application generate them for you sans extra page controls.
