Latest NVIDIA update failed. Broke PC

by michaeldganter . Updated 11 years, 7 months ago

Hi.

So yesterday I updated my GPU driver. During install the process failed, and didnt complete.

A few minutes after closing down the updater, everything went black and what flashed back was my desktop at 640×480 low res and message saying a standard VGA driver had been installed.

Restarted my PC, and it got stuck at starting windows. Waited an hour, restarted again and it wouldn’t get past the BIOS boot messages.

Got into the boot menu, tried all 3 safe mode options, same issues. Figured my last option is to to restore windows with my disk. Tried the automatic fixes on there, nothing worked.

Decided to just do a clean install of windows. Now it freezes up a different times during the install process. Furthest I’ve gotten is to ‘Completing Installation…’

If there’s anything you guys could think of I could try, that would be amazing. I’ve had a bit of a surf of these forums, similar problems but not the same.

(was)Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. GPU is a GT640.

Thanks in advance. Excuse my formatting, using a mobile.
