I am in the process of designing a WAN for about 2,00,000 PC’s at 3 levels of hierarchy ( 30 aggregation points at the first level and about 400 aggregation points at the second level.) I would like to know how a layer 3 switch compares to a router in terms of features like security, managebility , cost etc. When I am going for a low cost solution (eg. L/3 switch), is there any tradeoff in respect of security features, managebility etc.
